It Fell Off!

Thu Nov 12, 2009, 12:37 PM
"It," in this case, being my car's muffler. Gave me a bit of a scare, hearing something go "ka-THUNK! Skidddddd . . ." while I was driving. Fortunately, Dr. Bob from church has a garage, and was able to weld it back on for super-cheap. Thanks Dr. Bob!

Even so, it's one more indication that my 11-year-old (it's only been mine for 1 of those) Taurus is starting to fall apart and needs either major repairs or a replacement. Here's hoping I can get enough money from UPS to pay for one or the other.

In the meantime, I've finally organized my gallery, and relegated a lot of the old sketches to my scrapbook. I'm working on building up a backlog for the Underground; until I do, I'm only going to be updating once a week on Saturday nights.

Aside from the comic, I'm also working on the following requests:

- Tehlia (D&D character) for llelwyn
- Paka (Gaia avi) for Kara

If anyone else has something they'd like me to draw, just comment or note. But I can't guarantee I'll get to it anytime soon. ^_^;

Baby Steps

Two pieces of good news today!

First, I have a job at UPS now, with my orientation scheduled for next Friday. After that, I'll be riding around in the back of a courier truck on a daily basis helping the driver with packages and such. Long, frustrating job hunt bears fruit at last, hallelujah! Thanks to all those who have been keeping me in prayer, and thanks to ~rixyshalys who pointed me toward UPS in the first place. :thanks:

Second, I finally have a (finished) comic posted in my gallery. [link] It only took . . . what, two years? :-P I'm starting small (and, most likely, slow), doing short gag strips as practice until I'm confident enough to launch into an actual story arc.

Unfortunately, my mind seems to be stuck on "story arc" mode, so I'm having trouble thinking of gag strip ideas. If anyone has an idea for a joke/punchline they don't mind me using, just note me and I'll be glad for the help.

Taking Another Shot

Those of you who have been watching this space for a while (thank you for your kindness and patience) will know that I've made several abortive attempts to start up a webcomic here, but I always seem to get discouraged and sidetracked, and give up before I get anything posted. When I finally resumed activity on dA a few weeks ago, I decided to delete all my past journals in an attempt to start fresh. (Eventually I'll get my old deviations organized, too, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.) But I've found myself still lacking the ambition, the optimism, to really make any progress, so aside from some random sketches there hasn't been anything in the way of an update here.

Something happened this morning, in between catching up on megatokyo and looking at some deviations from *Gezusfreek and =ShouYume. I started to feel hopeful again. For a long time I've been stuck in something of an apathetic rut about my art, feeling moderately happy about the progress I've made but lacking the drive to push for more. What these three artists have done is remind me of what got me started down this road in the first place, and where I hope to be as I further my journey.

I can't guarantee any sort of regularity to my updates (though citing Piro as an inspiration may have tipped some people off to that already), but I can promise that I'm going to give this a genuine shot, rather than letting my art sit in a corner and die from lack of attention. Thanks to all those who have helped along the way, and those who have shown an interest in where I'm going with all this. Let's see where we end up, shall we?
